Scrapie - Advisory Notes for Farmers (PB9446)

National Scrapie Plan

The National Scrapie Plan (NSP) is a long-term plan which consists of a number of genotyping schemes and initiatives aimed at increasing the genetic resistance to scrapie in the national sheep flock.

The NSP Genotypes Table on the next section shows the 15 known genotypes which occur in sheep and their relative resistance or susceptibility to scrapie. The prevalence and frequency of each genotype differs between breeds. This table is subject to continuous scientific review.
