Definition:

Exemption (from waste management licensing)

A form of legal permission for specified activities, types and quantities of waste which are aimed at the recovery or re-use of the waste, or the disposal of waste at its place of production. The activity should not cause harm to the environment or human health and comply with the relevant objectives.
