Management: Electro-immobilisation, vasectomy & electro-ejaculation

The electro-immobilisation of sheep is prohibited by law. Vasectomy or electro-ejaculation may be carried out only by a veterinary surgeon.

Schedule 1, paragraph 30 of the Welfare of Farmed Animals (England) Regulations 2000 (S.I. 2000 No. 1870) states that:

No person shall apply an electrical current to any animal for the purposes of immobilisation. The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, as amended by the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 (Schedule 3 Amendment) Order 1988 (S.I. 1988 No 526) prohibits the performance of a vasectomy or the carrying out of electro-ejaculation by any one other than by a veterinary surgeon.
