General Description:

The regulation requires the labelling of all novel foods sold to the final consumer where they are judged on the basis of a scientific assessment not to be equivalent to existing foods. Novel foods are also required to be labelled if they give rise to health or ethical concerns or if they contain live genetically modified organisms.
