5. Housing


Lighting

  1. Provision should be made for a period of darkness in each 24-hour cycle, but where birds do not have access to daylight they should be given at least eight hours lighting per day.
  2. Enough light should be available to enable all birds to be seen clearly when they are being inspected. Supplementary lighting may be needed for the inspection of birds in the bottom tier in cage systems (see also paragraphs 14 and 40).
