6. The Removal of Antlers in Velvet (Anaesthetics) Order 1980 (SI 1980 No 685)

This Order prohibs the preformance without anaesthetic of the operation of removing any part of the antlers of a deer while those antlers are in velvet.

As with the Docking of Pigs (Use of Anaesthetics) Order 1974, this Order although made under the 1968 Act relates to the use of anaesthetics as prescribed by the Protection of Animals (Anaesthetics) Acts 1954 and 1964 and, therefore, any contravention is an offence under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 (Scotland 1912).
