More Information:

Certificate of Competence in the Safe use of Sheep Dips

This was developed to meet the requirements of the Medicines (Veterinary Drugs), (Pharmacy and Merchants List) Amendment Order 1994. From April 1995 it became illegal to sell Organophosphate dips, except to holders of the Certificate of Competence. Recent amendments mean that the Certificate is need for purchasers of both organophosphate dips and the synthetic pyrethroids.

At present there is no legal requirement for all users to possess the Certificate but the Environment Agency recommend that at least one person at the treatment site has the full Certificate (or is able to demonstrate that they have a similar level of competence) and remains on site throughout the treatment process.

The NPTC is the nationally recognised awarding body for the Certificate.
