Notifiable Diseases

36. If you suspect that any animal is suffering from a notifiable disease, you have a legal duty to notify a Divisional Veterinary Manager (DVM) of Defra as soon as possible.

The following are the main notifiable diseases which affect pigs (please note that this is not a complete list):

African swine fever


Aujeszkys disease

Classical swine fever

Foot-and-mouth disease


Swine vesicular disease

Teschen disease

Vesicular stomatitis
