General Description:This Act and subsequent legislation aims to control and limit the major particulate pollutants from the atmosphere, particularly in urban areas. Controls were introduced to restrict the production of smoke, dust and grit from commercial industrial and domestic activities (fires). Concepts such as smoke control areas and prohibition of dark smoke from chimneys were implemented.
